We've got Jobs! Job Board Roundup

by Alex Rudloff on Nov 4th 2009 1:00PM
Two really cool positions available for all you Mac Developers out there. Cocoa development is all the rage these days, isn't it? Both positions are contract based.

  • Mac Developer for Graphics Focused Project: Have a passion for graphics and a background in computer science? This may be the perfect gig. Joshua Distler, an award winning designer and Apple alumnus, is looking for a code ninja to help him turn his patent pending techniques into a world class Macintosh application. He's looking for someone with " the ability to implement mathematical algorithms and concepts in C++, C# or Java."
  • iPhone Developer - Groupon.com is looking for a crème de la crème iPhone developer. They're based out of Chicago but they're down with the telecommuting if you're not down with the windy city. Groupon is sort of like a localized version of woot. Mobile is big, shopping is big and local is the "next big thing." Seems like a great opportunity with a really cool startup!

Remember kids, if you're looking for great technology jobs or are looking to hire some "Grade A" talent, check out both TUAW and DownloadSquad's job boards. Posting on one gets you distribution across both. Not to mentioned featured in a killer Emurse post like this one. Can't be beat.

One site is a job board. Two is a job network.

We're thrilled to announce that DownloadSquad.com has joined the Emurse.com Job Board posse. They've joined forces with TUAW.com to become a "Technology channel". Meaning, you post your job to either site and it'll be distributed on both. Double the audience, double the exposure.

Looking for a software developer or a designer? How about someone to develop that mobile app that's going to make you all sorts of Scrooge McDuck rich? These are the boards for you. $350 for 31 days of job posting awesomeness on both sites, plus tons of coverage from the bloggers in their round ups and editorials, not to mention a job ad injected underneath each and every post. We're talking millions of readers passionate about technology on all platforms.

Killer stuff, and as always, more to come!

It's been a long time coming, but we're pleased to announce the launch of our first Emurse enabled job board on The Unofficial Apple Weblog!

TUAW.com is a leading community of Apple enthusiasts attracting millions of unique visitors. Since it's an Emurse powered product, every job listing on TUAW will allow you to apply using your Emurse web URL. Once you apply, we'll keep track of things for you and keep you posted on your applications status (we have a ton of new functionality heading your way maximizing this!). When there aren't many listings available for whatever it is you are looking for, CareerBuilder listings will appear, thus guaranteeing quality results every visit :)

If you are an employer looking for a web designer, iPhone developer, blogger or any other technology / web position, check it out! Posting a job on TUAW not only gets your listing in their job center, but also gets your position advertised on every relevant blog post on their site. The more people who apply, the more knowledgeable our distribution efforts. And of course, there's all the traffic you would expect from outside the community as well -- twitter, job aggregation sites, Emurse users and the like.

Give it a spin and let us know what you think!

Job Search Tips: Virtual Job Searches

by Stephen Lytle on Sep 17th 2009 9:45AM
Twenty years ago the best way to find a job was to speak to your personal network (which is still the best way), scan the newspaper classifieds and call the employer, or go to a career fair. Unfortunately, nearly everything we do has become automated or online or more efficient in one way or another, thus minimizing interpersonal contact. As such, the best way to get your resume in the hands of a hiring manager is to use the most direct route possible. Job boards are easy and you can definitely focus on quantity over quality by utilizing that route, but is that the best way to find the job?

Less Common Ways to Find a Job

by Rigel Celeste on May 28th 2009 7:00AM
Tired of looking for jobs in all the same places? The classifieds, Craigslist, and Monster can only take you so far, so if you're looking for a fresh place to job hunt try these ideas:

  • Surf the small sites Niche sites that cater to jobs in your specific field can be frustrating because they have only a small amount of information and may not be updated all that often, but that doesn't mean they should be ignored in favor of larger, more widely used resources. If/when you do happen to find an interesting opportunity on a niche site you'll not only find that it not only fits your qualifications much better but also that you have less competition to deal with.
  • Use your family network Sending out resumes and working your business network is all fine and dandy, but don't ignore the resources you have sitting right at home -- your family. Often people get interviews and jobs in part because they knew someone who recommended them, and that person can just as easily be your spouse, brother, or cousin as it can be a coworker or business associate.
  • Look to the past Networking is generally thought of as building new and current relationships, but what about bringing some old ones back to life? Networking backwards, meaning contacting old college professors, past employers that you left on good terms, and even managers you interviewed with in past job hunts can open all kinds of unexpected doors. It certainly can't hurt!

Emurse is a powerful tool that lets you create and host your resume online – for free.
