Guy Makes $83K a Year Wearing a T-Shirt

by Alex Rudloff on Nov 6th 2009 12:15PM

jason sadlerHere's a creative solution to the economic downturn -- let people pay you to wear their swag.

Jason Sadler, 26, sells companies the opportunity for him to wear their company's shirt for a day. He charges what he calls "face value", meaning January 1st costs $1 and December 31st costs $365. It might not sound like a ton of cash, but it adds up to $66,795 on a sold out calendar. He then sells monthly sponsorships adding upwards of $18,000 to his take home.

It may seem like one of those ridiculous ideas that would never actually work, but last year Jason made $83,000. According to BLS.gov, the average US take home was $32,000.

Here's the best part. In true entreprenuerial style, Jason's hiring on the west coast of the United States to expand his fledgling company's reach. Time to start bombarding his website with that Emurse resume. Make sure to mention how awesome your farmer's tan is in the cover letter!

What NOT to Say During an Interview

by Stephen Lytle on Jul 29th 2009 10:53AM
It's common to be nervous before attending an interview. I mean heck... sweaty palms, fumbling over words, lack of eye contact... it happens all the time. I see many signs of interview nervousness and tend to blow it off to just that. However, there are some instances where the manager just couldn't ignore the red flags. A survey of top personnel executives of 100 major American corporations turned up these stories of unusual behavior by job applicants. Here are some of the best of the collection of interview mishaps...

" A balding candidate abruptly excused himself. Returned to office a few minutes later, wearing a hairpiece."

"Stated that, if he were hired, he would demonstrate his loyalty by having the corporate logo tattooed on his forearm."

"A telephone call came in for the job applicant. It was from his wife. His side of the conversation went like this: "Which company? When do I start? What's the salary?" I said, "I assume you're not interested in conducting the interview any further." He promptly responded, "I am as long as you'll pay me more. "I didn't hire him, but later found out there was no other job offer. It was a scam to get a higher offer."

"... asked who the lovely babe was, pointing to the picture on my desk. When I said it was my wife, he asked if she was home now and wanted my phone number. I called security."

Q. What five or six adjectives best describe you?
A. Really, really, really, really, really cool.

Q. How do you handle change?
A. I usually put it in a jar in my sock drawer.

Q. Are you willing to take a drug test as part of your employment?
A. Sure. What kind of drugs do I get to test?

Have you ever seen something you could not believe in an interview? Maybe asked a very random question during an interview... comment and let us know your story.

How NOT to Answer "What's Your Greatest Weakness?"

by Stephen Lytle on Jul 10th 2009 12:01AM
There is one question that everyone hates to answer. A question that is difficult to overcome because you are never sure what the right answer is, never sure how to approach it, and it can be deadly to an otherwise successful interview. This question involves self assessment, a fine tuned answer, and a positive delivery. This question almost always comes up... Tell me...

What is your greatest weakness?

MSN recently surveyed hiring managers across the country and asked them some of the craziest things they have heard in an interview. Some of the answers are silly, some just plain mind boggling, others leave the reader questioning what the candidate was thinking.

Here are our favorite really bad answers:

The Unemployment Olympics

by Alex Rudloff on Apr 29th 2009 3:27PM
Making the best out of unemployment in New York City, laid off computer programmer Nick Goddard organized an event called the "Unemployment Olympics". Games like "pin the blame on the boss" and the "fax machine toss" allowed people to get out, burn off some steam and have a little fun in the East Village.

No one likes being unemployed and surviving requires finding ways to de-stress and smile from time to time. Big props to the folks who participated and organized the event!
